This past Saturday was the first ever So Happy Carnival! It was held at the Riverside Estates Guest House in Hout Bay, a stunning property in Valley Road.
In we went through the ticket booth, past some very colourfully dressed girls, and under a beautiful canopy of vines, banting, and fairy lights.
Straight to the bar for a beer! We got these free tokens (seen above), one for each drink we bought, which we could then use to play games and (easily) win vouchers for shots. A very cool concept that I haven’t seen before!
So off we went with our tokens down to the games and food stall section.
We played all the games at least twice and ate some delicious Mexican from their food truck. Nachos, Mexican Footlong’s and Chilli Poppers, and we had some Tanqueray Gin drinks in these cool masonry jars.
The attention to detail was fantastic and I really enjoyed all the decor! It was also great to see that people dressed up for the event, it really did make it that much more enjoyable!

The notable difference about this event over many many others was the constant effort made to entertain. Besides all the available things to do… the many games, drinks, the table selling dress up items for the few who didn’t dress up, food, swimming in the pool, oh and the music and dancing of course… there was also a steady stream of entertainers.
In no particular order, we saw jugglers, a little person wearing a baby mask, two women on stilts, a different juggler, another little person dressed as a clown, a stunt troupe, oh and a fashion show!
As the sun began to set the music really started pumping, cue two dancers in mirror ball helmets and let the fun continue!
All in all, it was an awesome day and night! The amount of work put into this event really showed and I hope that it gets bigger and more successful each year. My friends and I had a blast!
We will see you again next year So Happy Carnival!
