We arrived for dinner at ‘Thirty Ate’, sat down by the window and took a look around at the statement copper decor, warm lighting, and clean finishes before picking up our menus.
We ordered a delicious bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and started off with the Haloumi Stack, Calamari and Prawns. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much more than an average meal but I was blown away! We both were!
Ordering Haloumi actually scares me, it can go really wrong, so this was ordered with much trepidation. Crumbed Haloumi on grilled Aubergine and topped with basil pesto… It was delicious. It was so good that even Ryan (who I had to actually convince to even try it) loved it!
The grilled Calamari tubes and tenticles were really tasty, lightly dusted with spices, and tartar sauce. Not chewy at all, just juicy and delicious.
All the starters were amazing but the Prawns were definitely my favourite. Perfectly cooked, tender and succulent, and the sauce was buttery and incredible! I highly recommend them!
After those incredible starters we couldn’t wait to taste the mains! Ryan ordered the Ostrich Fillet, after some convincing by the waiter, having had a few bad Ostrich meals in the past. I got the Big Daddy Burger and we ordered some Jalapeno Poppers on the side.
Ryan’s medium rare Ostrich fillet came with creamy mash, glazed carrots and pepper sauce. It was juicy, not even slightly dry or tough, just absolute perfection. Complimented by the pepper sauce, this dish is not to be missed! It was so good that when our new friends from Texas asked what they should have for dinner, we told them to get down to Thirty Ate immediately and come have the Fillet. They did, and they loved it too!
These amazing Jalapeno Poppers that I am stuffing in my mouth are made with 3 different cheeses. Tasty, cheesy and just the right amount of heat. Fantastic!
My main meal was the Grand Daddy Burger, a beef burger covered in bacon jam (don’t ask me to explain, just trust that it’s amazing), avocado, jalapeno relish and massive crispy onion rings. Sounds great right? Well, it is. It is so good that I wish I was eating it right now… Perhaps they should consider a delivery service.
I was so full after all that food that I wasn’t sure where I could even fit one bite of dessert in. Turns out it’s not that hard when the dessert is really good… The sorbet was refreshing and tasty, and the brownie was just the right mix of cake, gooey chocolate and nuts.
Technically this restaurant is part of the hotel but with it’s seperate entrance and insanely good food eating at Thirty Ate should definitely not be dependant on sleeping at the Grand Daddy. If you’d like to see my post about the hotel, click here.
